I have a confession about the Olympics… It’s inspiring to watch each of the athletes compete, but there’s something I love even more: watching the athletes’ friends and families in the stands cheering for them. While I was watching Simone Biles’ parents get emotional as she competed for gold on the vault or when Bobby Finke’s sisters were screaming at the top of their lungs in the stands while their brother swam the 1500m–I was reminded of something. You are our cheering section. You are our support system that pushes us to do our best every day. We’re 8 months into the year and you are the reason we’ve achieved so much together.
From the entire KGSA team, we wanted to share a few highlights of what we’ve accomplished together since the end of last year.
Here’s a snapshot of what your “cheering” has made possible so far for KGSA in Term 1 and Term 2 this year:
Provided 84,400 Nutritious School Meals: Because of you, KGSA has been able to provide 84,400 nutritious meals to 48 day students and 100 boarding students this school year. This has ensured that no KGSA girl goes hungry.
Quickly launch an emergency flood response plan: Your support helped KGSA provide food staples to 200 families in Kibera and provided additional support to 4 KGSA families who were dislocated during the May flooding. This means KGSA girls were safe and fed during a national disaster.
Educated 148 girls: With your help, KGSA provided a holistic high school education to 148 girls this year. This is making a huge difference by serving girls who had no other opportunity to continue their studies after the 8th grade.
I’m thrilled to share these accomplishments with you and even more excited for what’s to come the rest of the year. Your dedication towards girls in Kibera continues to drive us forward every single day.
Thank you for cheering us on 💗
