Stacy’s Story

During our trip to Kenya, we were split into teams and assigned three KGSA girls to be our ambassadors for the week. It was a wonderful way to witness KGSA’s mission through their eyes.

Stacy was one of our student ambassadors. She gave us a tour of her classrooms, her community, and her home.

Stacy is seventeen years old and in her final year at KGSA. She enjoys math and physics and participates in the school’s Junior Achievement program. We loved watching her sing and dance in the Drama Club.

Stacy is also an orphan. She grew up in rural Kenya. When her mom passed away in 2021, her aunt in Kibera took her in. Their home is just around the corner from the school.

When Stacy welcomed us into her humble home, she offered us seats on the small couch and bunk bed where her family sleeps at night. She introduced us to her aunt and cousins. As she recounted her story, she was overcome with appreciation for the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy, and tears started flowing all around.

She told us that the school offered her a rare boarding spot in the ninth grade, so she didn’t have to burden her aunt with another mouth to feed. KGSA has become her adoptive family these past four years. Her classmates, her teachers, and now us. She doesn’t know where she’d be without KGSA.

Stacy hopes to perform well enough on her national exams later this year so she can achieve her dream of working for an organization to help the needy.

Stacy is why KGSA is so essential. KGSA serves girls who have no other opportunity to pursue a high school education. KGSA gives girls like Stacy a free education, a safe place to sleep, three warm meals a day, and time to play and study.

It was an honor to be welcomed into her home. This trip was life-changing for all of us.

I hope that by sharing trip stories, I can transport you to Kibera.

Thank you for supporting this important little school making a big impact on girls.
