No two days are the same

Good morning from Kenya!

Ever wonder what a “typical” day looks like when I’m visiting KGSA?

Here’s a peek into one of mine:
6:32am Wake with the sun and catch up on emails from the USA, where yesterday is coming to a close.
9:15am Commute to KGSA, which can take up to an hour depending on traffic.
10:12am Arrive at school around tea time, enjoying delicious chai. If I’m lucky, the cooks made mandazi (donuts).
11:02am Meet with our new partner, Books for Africa, who recently donated several boxes of reading material to the school library.

1:10pm Lunch with the staff and students. Pilau on Fridays is the best!
2:05pm Lead a lesson on comparing Nairobi with New York City for geography class, or maybe yoga on the rooftop turf for PE. Why not? The teachers usually give me advance notice that I’m subbing 😂

3:10pm Rotate through the skills clubs: dancing, cooking, and sewing with the girls is pure joy.

4:37pm The school’s power is still out. School Counselor Jeddy comes to the rescue. We hop on a boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) and she helps me find a place with decent Wi-Fi to lead a Zoom meeting with the Foundation Board.
6:04pm Leave Kibera before dark, hoping rush hour traffic isn’t too bad.
7:36pm Dinner – Nairobi is a paradise for foodies!
9:29pm FaceTime with my family and hit the pillow hard 😴

No two days are the same when I visit KGSA. And honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.
