Ever wondered what it’s really like behind the scenes at the Kibera Girls Soccer Academy? In this post, we’re pulling back the curtain and inviting you to spend the day with Director Claris as she works to educate, inspire, and empower girls in Kibera.
The Morning Hustle:
6:00am: After a quick breakfast and some light exercise, Claris reviews emails to prioritize tasks for the day.
7:00am: She walks to KGSA and touches base with the principal and deputy to discuss the day’s activities, concerns, or any urgent matters. After that, Claris visits classrooms, engaging with students and teachers to gather feedback and encourage a positive learning environment.
9:15am: Throughout the morning, she handles administrative duties addressing staff issues. Claris also meets with parents and community members to discuss student progress and gather support for school activities. She often hosts international visitors and other organizations to enhance partnerships with the school.
Afternoon Action:
1:00pm: Claris joins the students in the dining hall for lunch. It’s a great opportunity to connect informally, understand their challenges and interests, and foster community.
2:00pm: She joins the students for clubs and games. Her favorite activities are playing soccer on the rooftop pitch and supporting the Tailoring Club.
Closing Out the Day:
5:30pm: As she wraps up her day, she takes time to reflect on the day’s progress and outline goals for the next day. Claris catches up on emails and addresses any outstanding issues before leaving the school.
7:00pm: Claris prepares dinner and helps her son with his homework.
Thank You:
This work we do behind the scenes wouldn’t be possible without YOU. Thank you for being a part of the journey and we hope you enjoyed joining Claris for the day!
