Do you have a song that reminds you of your mom, grandmother, or other maternalistic figure? Mine will always be Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell – because my mom was an aerobics teacher when I was growing up and that was one of her dance songs.
In recognition of Mother’s Day, I went around and asked the KGSA family, “What’s one song that reminds you of your mother, grandmother, or someone who represents motherhood to you?”
Here’s what they had to say:
- Superwoman by Tanzanian Women All Stars reminds KGSA Alumna Trivia of her mum who is raising three daughters on her own.
- When Mama Prayed by Randy Travis reminds School Counselor Jeddy of her 96-year-old grandma
- Bright Side of the Road by Van Morrison reminds Founder Ryan of his late mom rocking out in the car.
- Mama by Abochi reminds Chemistry and Math teacher Madame Dalifa of her mother who encouraged her to follow her dreams.
- Goodness of God by CeCe Winans reminds KGSA Alumna Rachael of her elder sister Rebecca who took her in during high school, nurturing her like a second mom.
- Lovin’ You by Dolly Parton reminds KGSA Director Claris of all the women in her family who have inspired her.
We created a playlist of these songs as a gift for you!
To all the moms, aunts, grandmas, big sisters, friends, dog moms, plant moms, and people who nurture others to make our world go round: Happy Mother’s Day
